The Ames Woodworkers Club, based in Ames, Iowa meets at various places in Ames and in other locations in Central Iowa to share information and tips about various woodworking related topics. Membership in the Ames Woodworking Club is open to anyone interested in woodworking, arts and crafts involving wood, and related activities. In addition to attending meetings and receiving the monthly newsletter, dues paying members are also entitled to discounts at various area businesses. Members of the AWC who have paid their annual dues receive a membership card which can be presented to participating woodworking businesses when purchasing tools and supplies to receive a club discount on the items. Unless otherwise announced, meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month. Annual dues for 2010 are still $15 for electronic delivery or $20 for postal delivery. |

Following up on the January router round-up, the topic for the February 16th AWC meeting is ROUTER BIT & JIGS. Bring router bits or router jigs that may be of interest to others in the club. There will be a variety of bits and jigs at the meeting so attendees will be able to see a number of types and styles in one place. The meeting will be at the EHSSB building on the Iowa State University campus. *Update* Scott Schaaf from Kreg Tools will be at the February meeting to show one of the new router bits available from Kreg Tools. The AWC turning subgroup will meet next on February 28 from 1-4 p.m. The topic will be sharpening The location will be announced later. The AWC cabinet and furniture making subgroup will meet February 23th at 6:30 at Mark Blaedel’s shop at 900 Idaho Ave. in Ames. The topic will be cutting tenons. It is with deepest regret that we record the passing of fellow AWC member Rick Cordes who passed away on January 30th following complications of a massive stroke he suffered on January 26th. He was an avid woodworker and photographer; he served the AWC as a past Club Secretary and was currently a member of the Board of Advisors. We send our condolences to all of Rick's family and friends. He will surely be missed. |
